First Fridays 2026: Living Legacies

Friday January 2

Other dates...

10:00 AM  –  11:00 AM

Explore the legacy of exhibitions at Planting Fields, beginning with a 20-minute presentation that highlights the stories Planting Fields Foundation continues to preserve and share. The presentation will offer background on Legacy of Landscape: Innocenti–Webel’s Designs for the Coes and explore why the historic second-floor rooms of the Main House serve as the ideal setting for our exhibitions.

Afterward, enjoy an exclusive curator-led tour with Marie Penny, the Foundation’s Michael D. Coe Archivist, through our second-floor exhibitions. See Legacy of Landscape: Innocenti–Webel’s Designs for the Coes, featuring historic photographs, sketches, slides, and film that showcase the innovation of one of the nation’s leading 20th-century landscape architecture firms. Then continue to A Living Archive: Sam Van Aken’s Botanical Legacies, part of Catalyst 2026: The Planting Fields Stand, where cyanotypes, herbarium specimens, and other works reveal the dynamic intersections of art, science, and horticulture.

This guided experience offers a rare opportunity to go behind the scenes and discover the stories that bring art, landscape, and history to life. Please note, that this program does not include a tour of the Main House. You can book that here.
